🔥 Parkland Formula (Burn Resuscitation)

Estimate 24-hour fluid resuscitation for major burns with the Parkland formula.

Parkland Formula (Burn Resuscitation)

Weight (kg)
% TBSA burned (2nd/3rd degree) (%)

When to use

Initial crystalloid resuscitation in significant burns.

How it works

Total = 4 mL × weight(kg) × %TBSA (2nd/3rd degree); give half in the first 8 hours from the time of the burn.

Key points

  • A starting estimate — titrate to urine output (~0.5 mL/kg/h adults).
  • Time runs from the burn, not from arrival.
  • Exclude superficial (first-degree) burns from %TBSA.
