🦴 Corrected Calcium (Albumin)

Adjust total calcium for low albumin with the corrected calcium formula.

Corrected Calcium (Albumin)

Measured total calcium (mg/dL)
Albumin (g/dL)

When to use

Interpret calcium in hypoalbuminaemia.

How it works

Corrected Ca = measured Ca + 0.8 × (4.0 − albumin g/dL). Reference 8.5–10.5 mg/dL.

Key points

  • Low albumin lowers total but not ionised calcium.
  • Ionised calcium is more reliable in critical illness.
  • Correct before judging hypo-/hypercalcaemia.
